A heavy work-load and moving into a new apartment have seriously tapped my energy and desire to blog. I haven't been inspired to take many photos or document my adventures lately. That changed this past weekend.
Catherine got an email from a good friend back home. Attached to the message was a copy of the paperwork verifying her single status. Defying the odds, her friend managed to score the official document from the Burmese government that certifies she is eligible to marry here in Taiwan. The biggest hurdle to our future together is behind us...phew!!
The arrival of the paperwork has inspired Catherine to start thinking about the details of our wedding. We have already had a few less-than-fun discussions about wedding photos. The whole thing is a racket as far as I am concerned, but she is pretty excited about it. My mother told me many years ago that a wedding is the woman's day and don't question her decisions or motives if you want to have any peace...excellent advice. I am sure we will come to some sort of compromise, painfully...lol.
Since we don't plan on having a reception/party, the honeymoon is what we are going to concentrate on. We need to come up with a really cool trip that isn't going to cost a fortune. Any ideas out there? I would appreciate any recommendations you folks might have for a romantic getaway on a budget.

That's great news! Get ready to smile for several hours straight for your photos... you might even have some money left afterwards for your honeymoon if you're lucky!
Congratulations!! We did a 7-day all-inclusive packaged tour to Hokkaido. It was stress free for people like us who didn't speak a word of Japanese. Did sight seeing during the day and enjoyed hot spring spas every night which were awesome, especially when the SPA had a view of the volcano lake.

However, it seems most people like to go to Bali for their honeymoons.

dear david, im a teacher in Malaysia. My husband, son, and I are Canadians who are living and teaching ESL in Taiwan.
We have been together for 10 years, but married just for 1.
We were married last June, 2007 in Thailand on the beach at sunset. For us it was the perfect wedding! The price was nice and it was a day to remember forever.
Maybe we didn't get married in a church or have a limo to take us away, but there was the beach at sunset, an elephant ride at an elephant farm, a private temple where 5 monks gave us a blessing, a wonderful Thai dinner in a cove on the beach, and then we released 2 sky lanterns and made a wish for the future.

i've heard some say that they don't want photos for financial reasons, but why no party David? the guests bring money and that's what pays for it. you can't get married without a party man! that's the most fun part of the entire day!
you're right mj. we have been discussing all of the details and trying to figure out a way to make it all happen. we are considering a small party all at a restaurant here in Taipei. you will be on the short list if it happens!
