Bush, Lincoln and Fox News

Is there any doubt that The Fox News Channel is a shill for the Republican party? If there still is any doubt, check this out. Not only are they defending the idiot currently in the Oval Office, the "reporters" at Fox need a history lesson.

I tell you what — he thinks about Lincoln and the tough times that he had during the Civil War. 600,000 dead. The country essentially hated him when he was leaving office. -quote courtesy of thinkprogress.org

Did Lincoln "leave office"? Wasn't there an incident at Ford's Theater that made it a bit difficult for Abe to continue his presidency? He had been re-elected shortly before the assassination.

Watch the following video for confirmation of this mess:

How shockingly stupid and, as the host of the video puts it, embarrassing.

With Friends Like These Guys...

Bush chumming it up with Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.Photo courtesy of americanprogress.org

Saudi Arabia are allies in the War on Terror?

This week, it was revealed that a 19 year old victim of a gang rape in Saudi Arabia was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 200 lashes. I should mention that she was initially sentenced to 90 lashes but she took her story to the media and the Saudi courts weren't pleased with her actions; so they tacked on the additional penalty.

She was found guilty of being in the company of an unrelated male in public...hmmm. Is the Saudi judicial system in some sort of time warp? This is barbaric, to say the least. This kind of misogyny has no place in the 21st century.

Apparently, the Bush administration is not so appalled. The Associated Press, via Yahoo reported the reaction of State Department spokesman Sean McCormack. He stated that the verdict "causes a fair degree of surprise and astonishment."

Wow, what a harsh indictment...huh? What the hell do the Saudis have on the Bushies? They just can't do anything wrong, I guess. 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi nationals. Makes me wonder how much of the Bush/Cheney mid-east policy is done at the behest of the Saudi ruling family?

Deadly Toxic Snowflakes

The hits just keep coming. Yesterday, The Washington Post obtained several internal memo's from former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's office. The memo's were known as "snowflakes". The memo's were directives to his staff. Many of them contained his thoughts on how to manipulate the media in order to scare the public into supporting the misguided war strategy.

A reminder...This guy was the main architect of the invasion of Iraq.

When things started falling apart a few years back, he made some comments that are pretty scary:

"Talk about Somalia, The Philippines, etc. Make the American people realize they are surrounded in the world by violent extremists."

"Keep elevating the threat."

"Link Iraq to Iran."

There you have it! The administration has been planning to link Iraq to Iran for a loooooong time.

Don't believe the hype people. This was planned long ago. Rumsfeld, Cheney and crew are orchestrating an endless conflict that will make them VERY rich.

Here is a news clip covering the topic. Olbermann's show is the best source of news on TV.

The Bumbling Idiot is at it Again...

Bush is stumbling and bumbling and Olbermann is right on, again. His examination of the blurring of the line between the military and the civilian leadership is enlightening and scary. This commentary should send a chill down your spine.

With God On Their Side

You know you are in trouble when the National Coalition of Nuns calls for your head. Those gals have got a direct line to God...lol. Even if you're not Catholic, like me, ya gotta be a little afraid of the hooded ladies of faith.

Religion Briefs Coalition of nuns calls for impeaching Bush and Cheney
JOURNAL WIRE REPORT
Saturday, September 1, 2007

A progressive group of U.S. nuns has called on Congress to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney because of their roles in the war in Iraq.

“The National Coalition of American Nuns is impelled by conscience to call you to act promptly to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for ... high crimes and misdemeanors,” the group wrote in a letter written on behalf of its board members.

The letter says that impeachment is warranted for their “deceiving the public under the false pretense that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction” and “destroying” the reputation of the United States and the good will of other nations.

“The time for impeachment is now — before the example of George W. Bush’s regime is set in stone,” they wrote. “Future generations will thank you for preserving the freedom of our nation and its relation to the entire human community.”

The coalition was founded in 1969 for individual nuns dedicated to issues of social justice and human rights.

The letter was approved during a mid-August meeting of the board, held in Chicago. During that same meeting, the board unanimously adopted statements opposing all war and affirming peacemaking efforts. “Rather than continuing support of a just-war theory, a more compassionate church would oppose all war and teach peacemaking skills for all levels of government and interpersonal conflict resolution,” the statement reads.

The board also adopted statements pledging to work to “moderate the impact we make on planet Earth,” and supporting nuclear disarmament and relief efforts for the poor in Africa.

This is Shameful

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this drivel. Ari Fleischer, former press secretary for George W. Bush, has been busy spending $15 million on a reprehensible TV commercial campaign in support of the Iraq quagmire. He is the spokesman for a group, ironically called, Freedom's Watch.

The ads are aimed at 20 U.S. states they feel still have luke-warm support for the Iraqi occupation. States that have republican Congress members who are no longer standing behind Bush 100%. The ads are to scare them back into the fold. Again, the ads are aimed at republican held areas...you know they are in trouble when they are attacking their own.

Check out the baseless reference to the 9/11 attacks. It was established years ago that Iraq/Saddam Hussein had NOTHING to do with 9/11. How many Iraqis were in the planes that hit 9/11???

This is all about fear. Keep 'em scared and the Bush administration can continue to take the country down a horribly destructive path.

Here is the video, brought to you by the White House err Freedom's Watch:

Here is an interview with Fleischer about the ad campaign and a rebuttal by an Iraq war veteran. Watch him squirm as he is asked questions that weren't pre-approved by the White House.

Fleischer didn't even know the soldiers name...ugh. The soldier is nothing but a political prop.

Beyond Stupid

Most of the planet agrees that the war in Iraq is a disaster. It makes me wretch just thinking about it. The whole scene makes me angry, but my deep-seeded disdain for George W. Bush is a result of his tragic domestic policy decisions. The cream of the crop is his veto of the stem-cell research legislation. All in the name of some misguided religious dogma. Now he is threatening to veto legislation that would expand health care coverage for kids...a bill that would be paid for by taxes on cigarettes. What shame!

Check out the following news item off the Reuters wire:

By Stephanie Beasley

LANDOVER, Maryland (Reuters) - A veto threat by President George W. Bush over a measure to expand a government health program for children triggered outrage on Wednesday from congressional Democrats and advocacy groups.

A Senate panel is considering a proposal to boost funding for children's health insurance by $35 million, an expansion that would be funded by higher federal taxes on cigarettes.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program, known as SCHIP, covers 6.1 million children in families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to pay for private insurance.

During a visit to a factory in the Washington suburb of Landover, Bush said he supported the health program's initial concept of helping poor families.

But Bush, who earlier this year unveiled a plan to revamp the tax code with the aim of making health care more affordable, said the Senate plan would in some cases extend government health coverage to families making as much as $80,000 a year.

He said that would increase the government's reach into health care and distort the market. "I really do believe that the government involvement in health care will lead to less quality care and rationing over time," Bush said.

"If Congress continues to insist upon expanding health care through the S-CHIP program -- which, by the way, would entail a huge tax increase for the American people -- I'll veto the bill," he added.

Former Sen. John Edwards, a Democratic presidential candidate, called Bush's veto threat "heartless and shortsighted."

"The obstacle to expanding health care in America is none other than George Bush. On his watch, the number of uninsured Americans has grown by 5 million, while he remains ideologically committed to the profits of private insurers," Edwards said.

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry, who lost to Bush in the 2004 election, accused him of clinging to "unworkable proposals" for health care and a "wrong-headed tax scheme" and urged him not to veto the children's health legislation.

Bush contends his plan to provide tax breaks to people to help them buy private health insurance would make health care more affordable and reduce the number of uninsured Americans.

But Bruce Lesly, president of the family advocacy group First Focus, said uninsured poor children would not benefit from the deductions because they would not cover enough of families' costs.

"Unfortunately, the biggest threat to the health and well being of our nation's children is the Administration's own budget proposals and veto threats," Lesly said in a statement.

This is unacceptable.

Halliburton to Dubai

The company that has bilked the U.S. tax payers out of $21 billion for a war that we have lost is now moving to the Middle East.

Federal investigators alleged last month that Halliburton is responsible for $2.7 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq...

Yes, Halliburton is now thumbing its nose at the US market. The one that they have so successfully hoodwinked out of all that money.

They have chosen to take all that money elsewhere.

Remember about a year ago when President Bush tried to convince the American public that we should sell the operations of 6 of our major ports to a corporation in Dubai?....hmmm

Let's see...

*Dick Cheney used to be the CEO of Halliburton
*Halliburton gets $21 billion for "operations" in Iraq
*President Cheney (ahem) tries to sell ports to Dubai
*Halliburton moves to Dubai

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that this stinks.

Bushisms

It's been awhile since I've posted a commentary on the goof that currently resides in the White House. I was perusing some of the "Bushisms" web sites and thought you all might enjoy a good laugh and groan...

A few of the recent notable malapropisms from the proud Texan:

"And there is distrust in Washington. I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it."— Speaking on National Public Radio, Jan. 29, 2007.
I truly believe he will do his best to "elevate" it.

"Because of your work, children who once wanted to die are now preparing to live."—speaking at the White House summit on malaria, Dec. 14, 2006
huh?

"No doubt in my mind, with your help, Dave Lamberti will be the next United States congressman."—speaking at a campaign rally for Jeff Lamberti, Des Moines, Iowa, Oct. 26, 2006.
It might be a good idea to remember the candidate's name.

"You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror."—Interview with CBS News, Washington D.C., Sept. 6, 2006
That is a telling remark. His actions certainly have made sure that Iraq is a mess.

President Bush: Peter. Are you going to ask that question with shades on?
Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times: I can take them off.
Bush: I'm interested in the shade look, seriously.
Wallsten: All right, I'll keep it, then.
Bush: For the viewers, there's no sun.
Wallsten: I guess it depends on your perspective.
Bush: Touché.

—Exchange with legally blind reporter Peter Wallsten, to whom Bush later apologized, Washington, D.C., June 14, 2006
This is indicative of his disconnection from reality. His propensity to make a fool of himself and his total lack of grasp on his surroundings is unsettling, to say the least.

I post these things because they are too funny. At the same time, they are disturbing. How did such a blithering idiot ever make it to such a level? His entire existence has a curious aroma of corruption.

Such Hypocrisy

Once again, we see the republican leadership falling on their own swords.

The Foley page scandal is another feather in the cap of this despicable group. The nerve of these guys running around professing to be the moral compass of America. These idiots had this guy as the chairman of a committee aimed at aiding missing & exploited children!! They knew he had issues years ago, yet allowed him to remain in such a position. Morality? These guys wouldn't know how to take the moral high ground if they were given a map from god.

Today I see Bush spoke at a fund-raiser. He insinuated democrats, if given control of congress in the upcoming election, would raise taxes and spend recklessly...hmmm. All you have to do is look at the budgets of the past few years to see Bush is guilty of spending our money like no other president in modern history. I gotta believe there are zillions of people out there that would be happy to return to the days of Clinton in the Oval Office?? Democrats direct their attention to issues that effect the working-class folks in America. Sometimes it does mean modest increases in your tax bill, but paying for better schools is a far cry easier to digest than paying for an unwinnable war. These war-hawks are destroying all the good-will we have world-wide.

It's time to take back control of this country and get back on the right track. America needs to concentrate on improving education, health care and the environment.
